This page is for folks who have received a butterfly from me in a container.

Your butterfly chrysalis is alive. Please set it in a place where you can see it every day. I recommend the kitchen counter by the coffee pot.  Do not shake it or move it more than necessary. It's best to not handle it as it is fragile.

In less than 2 weeks, a butterfly will emerge, probably in the morning. It will dry its wings and then flit around the container, this is the time to set it free.

It is best to release it on a warm, sunny day. Simply go outside, say a prayer of thanks and open the container so it can fly. Don't worry if it doesn't go to far, sometimes they aren't quite ready to fly yet. Please don't touch the wings! If necessary, you may place your finger under its feet and let it crawl on you, or a leaf.

Not all butterflies make it, if yours doesn't, don't panic, it is just nature.

If it is rainy or night time, you may wait until the next day to release it but please do not keep it in the container for more than 24 hours. It will not survive in captivity to its potential. Butterflies are made to be free!
